Budaun, Uttar Pradesh — Following the tragic deaths of 16 children in Madhya Pradesh and 3 in Rajasthan due to contaminated cough syrups, the Uttar Pradesh Drugs Department has ordered a thorough investigation of cough syrups stored in medical stores and government hospitals across the state. 


In this regard, a raid was conducted today at the main drug warehouse of the district hospital in Budaun by the drug inspector. During the operation, two samples of Ambroxol Hydrochloride Syrup were collected for laboratory testing, and 191 bottles of the same syrup were seized.


On Monday, the drug inspector, Lovkush Prasad, carried out a surprise inspection at the main drug warehouse situated within Budaun District Hospital. He collected two separate samples of 100 ml Ambroxol Hydrochloride Syrup and sent them to the lab for analysis. Additionally, 191 bottles of the syrup manufactured by M/S. Sentry Life Pharmaceuticals Limited, Saleadi Khurd, Dehradun, were confiscated under Form 15.


This strict action by the Uttar Pradesh Drugs Department comes in the wake of the deaths caused by contaminated cough syrup in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The deadly cough syrup, known as "Deadly Cough Syrup" or "Coldrif Cough Syrup," was produced by SriSan Pharmaceuticals in Tamil Nadu. Investigations have revealed that the syrup contained over 48% Diethylene Glycol, a highly toxic chemical.


Following the incident, FIRs have been filed against the manufacturing company, and the sale of this cough syrup has been banned in several states. 


Expressing ongoing , Drug Inspector Lovkush Prasad stated that the raids and investigations would continue until further orders.
